§ 18-236. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Unsafe building means any building or structure which is being maintained or allowed to exist in violation of the building codes as provided under article II of this chapter and which is unsafe, insanitary, or not provided with adequate egress, or which constitutes a fire hazard, or is otherwise dangerous to human life, or which in relation to existing use constitutes a hazard to safety or health by reason of inadequate maintenance, dilapidation, obsolescence, or abandonment. For the purpose of this article, single-family dwellings which were constructed prior to January 1, 1974, and continuously occupied by the same tenant since June 24, 1986, shall be exempt only for so long as the dwelling is occupied by that same tenant and shall not be deemed to come within the purview of this article.
